February Break Divisional Practices

During teachers convention week we have never scheduled  games and practices.  The reason behind this is so many families travel during this break that coaches found it just to hard to get players out.     We moved to a divisional practice schedule that has now evolved into what we hope is a fun week of development and opportunity for exposure to new friends and coaches.

Please read through the types and sign your player up for as many or as little as you like,   please Don’t “hold Spots” to decide later,  remember we  want everyone to have equal opportunity.

If We do not get Coaches signed up the Ice will be cancelled.

Role Definitions

For this week we have defined the following roles:

LEAD COACH - Coach who takes ultimate accountability for the session.  We will ask for 2 Assistant coaches to sign up to help with any instances that occur.  Please bring your own supplies (pucks, pylons, etc.)

Assistant Coach -  Will take direction from Lead coach and assist in drills and help tend to any issues/injury's

Coach Ref - Will act as a Ref for 3on3 Scrimmages,  must bring a helmet and Whistles and Pucks.

ON ICE HELPER -  a player from an older division who is dressed in full gear who is brought out to assist and help the lead coach in developing the younger players.

5 Types of Ice Times available through Teachers Convention week

Team Ice -  Assigned to Coaches who ask for a practice during the Break, it is expected coaches and managers ensured they have enough players available to attend.   This is Ice dedicated to that team and Their Affiliates.    Request Team Ice by email

Stick & Puck -   This is Open and Unstructured Ice for Kids to skate around and have fun,  Lead coaches should set out obstacles such as Pylons,  Tires , Danglers, or any other tools they like.   Coaches can work with individual kids on individual skill.      The key to this ice is it is unstructured and PLAYER LED

Coach Lead Practice -   As it sounds the lead coach will design a practice plan age appropriate for that division and should focus on individual skills.   This is an opportunity for kids to be exposed to different coaching styles.  We will ask for a Goalie Coach on Atom and above and lead Coach and Goalie coach should work together to ensure our goalies are also being developed.  (Please note Initiation has been separated out for Initiation,   Tier 1 Initiation may Join in on some Novice sessions) - Initiation Only

3on3 -   One coach will sign up as a ref,   Kids will be divided into two teams and will simply play 3on3 to work on skating and Shooting Skills.

Development Session -  Ice that will be lead by our professional Coaches from  Athletic Edge, Total Athlete Development and Power Edge Pro

Please Remember

  • We encourage coaches to participate in all divisions. No Coach will result in Cancelled Ice,    (i.e. an Atom Coach can run a Bantam practice or vice versa)
  • Sign up in the appropriate age group and only attend sessions you have signed up for, some sessions fill quickly, and this is on a first come basis.
  • Allow your players to experience all sessions, this week is for fun… It is a great experience having a different coach and being in a practice with different players, If your coach has taken the time to set up a team Ice please make that a priority.
  • Only Show up where you are signed up!
