Below is a sample list of duties and estimation of hours on all the Vacant positions,   please email your expression of interest by clicking here: Expression of Interest
 
 
Hockey Operations Committee
Chaired by: VP of Operations JodyAnn McSkimming
 
Division Directors: Initiation Minor, Initiation Major & Bantam
Estimated time per month -  40-60 hours with the following tasks. 
  • Accountable for keeping division page up to date on website
  • Accountable for all communications to Division i.e. website, email, and Facebook pages
  • Accountable for Division Stats/Standings (Atom, Peewee, Bantam, Midget)
  • Review Ice Allocations to teams each month and double check that all teams are getting appropriate Ice, and that games are rotating evenly and working with ice allocator to correct any issues
  • Facilitate the evaluation process as set out by the VP Operations, and tier players based on results of the evaluations
  • Work with VP of Operations and other Division Directors to secure head coaches for division
  • Work with Coaches to secure and assist managers for each team in your division
  • Organize fair and equal teams
  • Facilitate any team, coach or player discipline conversations
  • Facilitate Division Development programs
  • Facilitate Coach Development
  • Facilitate Minor Hockey Week directions as per MHW committee
  • Facilitate playoffs
  • Participate in Incident investigations when called on by League Governor
 
Director of Rosters & Tournaments:
Estimated time per month -  15-20 hours with the following tasks
 
  • Liaise with tournament directors of outside leagues to help secure tournaments, encouraging/enabling all house league teams that wish to travel the ability to do so
  • Work with Division Directors, WBHL Coaches and Managers to secure tournaments at the right level of play, understanding that there has been a complex tiering system across Alberta
  • Analyze and communicate to division directors & coaches to understand Alberta’s new tiering system and what that means to WBHL
  • Work with division directors, ice allocators to secure travel permits from Hockey Alberta
  • Work with division directors to collect rosters (including affiliate information) and secure approved rosters (hard cards) from Hockey Alberta
  • Collect feedback from teams on tournaments attended
  • Provide a report to the board at end of season
Director of WBHL Coach Development:
Estimated time per month -  15-20 hours with the following tasks
 
  • Work with the Elite Coach Development Director to organize mentoring partnerships
  • Ensure that all coaches and assistant coaches selected by division directors have appropriate training
  • Take ownership of the “Coaches Corner” web page, research and add tools and information
  • Work with Hockey Alberta to organize & coordinate additional training courses
  • Coordinate learning “clinics” with our development partners, Oil Barons and elite coaches
  • Work with division directors to align all head coach yearly plans
  • Accountable for coordinating coach feedback surveys at year end
  • Act as coach mentor/advocate in any coach discipline issues, including completion of discipline requirements For example: a coach is required to take an additional course, or serve a suspension
  • Act as a liaison with the Ref in Chief and referee's association on behalf of coach concerns/ requests 
  • Provide a report to the board at end of season.
Director, WBHL Player Development 
Estimated time per month -  10-15 hours with the following tasks
 
  • Facilitate Divisional Ice Times i.e. practices, 3 on 3s, development during Teachers Convention and Christmas break
  • Work with VP of Admin & the Development Committee to secure & Coordinate skater development opportunities
  • Work to promote and encourage our “pay to play” partnerships
  • Work with Division Directors, Ice Allocator and partners to ensure all teams are getting equitable development opportunities with our partners, for example: 3 PEP sessions spread out over the season
  • Work with Division Directors and Coaches to define an “affiliation for development” directive
  • Act as a parent/player, mentor/advocate in any parent/player discipline issues, including completion of discipline requirements, for example: a parent is required to take an additional course, or serve a suspension
Director, WBHL Female Development: 
Estimated time per month -  8-12 hours with the following tasks
  • Facilitate "World Girls Hockey Day"
  • Work with VP of Operations and other division directors to secure head coaches for female teams
  • Work with coaches to secure managers for each female team
  • Work with VP of Admin & the development committee to secure & coordinate female specific development
  • Work with Ice Allocator to ensure assigned ice specific to female teams
  • Liaise with Hockey Alberta, Hockey Canada and other leagues to secure locations for females to play together as a team - either roster or through exhibition games
Director, WBHL Goalie Development:
Estimated time per month -  10-15 hours with the following tasks
  • Work with VP of Admin & the development committee to secure & coordinate goalie specific development
  • Work with ice allocator to secure specific goalie Ice
  • Facilitate the evaluation process as set out by the VP of Operations, and tier players based on results of evaluations
  • Facilitate the "Emergency Goalie" process as set out by Hockey Alberta
  • Work with Division Directors to place goalies on appropriate teams and advise on multiple goalies i.e. 12 teams and 21 goalies
Development & Administration Committee 
Chaired by:  VP of Admin, Jody Seymour 
 
Chair, Oil Sands Classic 
Estimated time commitment is 30 - 50 hours from December through February with the following tasks
This is an annual Novice Tournament that generally occurs family day weekend.
The Chair will assume all responsibilities for the coordination of this tournament including managing a budget, activities, securing prizes and volunteers. 
 
Chair, Minor Hockey Week:
Estimated time commitment is 30 - 50 hours from November through January with the following tasks
WBHL wide tournament that includes all teams, all coordination of this tournament including managing a budget, activities, securing prizes and Volunteers 
 
Elite Division Directors:
Estimated time per month 50 to 60 hours with the following tasks
  • Accountable for keeping elite page up to date on website
  • Accountable for all communications to elite teams via website, email and Facebook pages
  • Review Ice Allocations to teams each month and double check that all teams are getting appropriate ice and there are no issues with visiting teams for Game Times 
  • Facilitate the Elite tryout process as set out by the VP of Admin, and facilitate player selection meetings 
  • Work with coaches to secure managers and treasurers for each team
  • Facilitate any team, coach or player discipline conversations
  • Facilitate and communicate play downs 
  • Participate in Incident investigations when called on by League Governor
Director, Elite Coach Development :
Estimated time per month 10-12 hours with the following tasks
  • Work with WBHL Coach Development Director to organize mentoring partnerships
  • Contribute to the “Coaches Corner” web page, research and add tools and information
  • Work with Hockey Alberta to organize & coordinate additional training courses in partnership with the WBHL Coach Development Director 
  • Coordinate "learning clinics” with our development partners, Oil Barons and the elite coaches
  • Work with head coaches on yearly plans and personal growth plans 
  • Accountable for coordinating coach feedback surveys at year end
  • Act as coach mentor/advocate in any coach discipline issues, including tracking completion of discipline requirements, for example: a coach is required to take an additional course, or serve a suspension
 
Finance Committee
Chaired by: Treasurer, Kelly Robertson
 
Director of Sponsorship
Estimated time commitment is 40 - 50 hours per season.
A large part of our operating budget comes from divisions and league sponsors and this program has deteriorated over the years. Our treasurer revamped a sponsorship package last season and we need to begin presenting it to potential sponsors to secure crucial dollars needed to run our programs. This role will work in close relationship with our President and Treasurer to secure sponsor partners. 
 
Director of Elite Financial Reporting
Estimated time commitment is 40 - 50 hours per season.
This role will create a process and be responsible for providing a check and balance on all elite teams budgets, sponsorships & fundraising initiatives. They will ensure all that financial directives are being followed, approve all fundraising and ensuring all raffles are put through the Raffle Director. 
 
Director, Registrar
Estimated time commitment is 20-30 hours per season.
This role will be responsible for working with our Hockey operations Manager, Treasurer  and members on all special payment plans and outstanding membership fees.   This person will also work with the Tournament and Roster Director in registering all rosters with Hockey Alberta.
